The Drive-Ins are a four piece authentic up-tempo Rock'n'Roll revival band covering 50's greats such as Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly, Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Bill Haley and his Comets, and many more.

 

Their lively rhythms and energetic renditions of classic Rock'n'Roll songs are irresistible. With decades of professional work between them, the band will grab you with its tight rhythm section, exciting lead guitar and powerhouse lead vocals.

 

On top of that add stunning 50's harmonies and you’ve got one rockin’ dance band guaranteed to get you up on the floor.

The Drive-Ins are located on the Coffs Coast and have already garnered a loyal following having regularly performed venues such as the Sawtell and Nambucca RSLs.

The Band

Rick Hofma:  Lead Vocals / Guitar

Rick has been a front man for many popular Sydney bands from the 70’s to current. Bands such as Navaho, Fragile, The Kick, Knight Brothers, Bad Sneakers, Tuckitinya, Rock’s Up Doc, Lone Strangers, Pink Chevys and recent local Coffs Harbour band Magneto. Rick’s on stage vocal performances range from heartfelt ballads to high powered contemporary rock, and thrives on 50’s rock and roll. With over 30 years’ experience singing all the great hits Rick will move any audience to dance and enjoy themselves. One would have to experience a performance to really appreciate Rick’s ability and versatility.
 

Kevin Kirby: Drums/Backup Vocals

Kevin has been playing drums and singing since the age of 15 years. He performed in the Golden Guitar and Mo Award winning band Grand Junction and rock band Invoice with many great album releases. In 1986 he founded the Eagles Show Band New Kids in Town enjoying great success touring throughout Australia and New Zealand, later on to join in 1991 the Multi Award Winning Band Tuckitinya Australia . Kevin is an outstanding singer both lead and harmony vocals and is a Master of Percussion.
 

Cory Blight: Bass / Backup Vocals

Cory is a multi-instrumentalist from Melbourne. He spent years touring nationally as drummer for rock bands Dukes of Windsor and Over-reactor. He received an ARIA nomination, and performed live at the MTV Awards, Rove Live (Channel 10), Channel V, the NRL Footy Show (Channel 9) and Recovery (ABC). Cory has collaborated on recordings with Chris Cheney (The Living End), Jesse Hughes (Eagles of Death Metal) and Tex Perkins (The Cruel Sea). After holidaying on the mid north coast Cory decided to make Coffs Harbour his home in 2018.
 

Chris Purcell: Lead Guitar / Backup Vocals

Chris spent the 80’s touring nationally with The Innocents, taking live music to regional areas as remote as Arnhem Land.  He also worked in Sydney as a freelance recording engineer and produced records for young punk/garage bands including Urban Guerrillas, The Redcoats, Steve Smith Trio, The Blazers and The Tall Poppies. He moved to the New England area in the 90’s and spent the next 20 years gigging throughout the north-west with Dogbox, Big Bertha’s Blues Band and The Al Heeney Rhythm & Blues Experience. In 2013 The R&B Experience won the north-west section of the ABC’s national band competition Exhumed. In 2017 Chris moved to the mid-north coast where he met singer Rick Hofma. Their mutual love of 50’s music led to the formation of 50’s rock & roll revival band The Drive-Ins.
